2000's

The new century opened with the acquisition of Cork's leading residential estate agency, Burton Crowley O'Flynn, which was later rebranded to Sherry FitzGerald and now occupies a 5,500 sq. ft. flagship branch in Lapps Quay, the heart of Cork's renaissance.

The year 2000 marked a significant milestone in the history of the Group when the Head Office and the National Headquarters for DTZ Sherry FitzGerald moved to a 23,500 sq. ft. flagship building in Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2. In 2000 we also launched Mortgage Insight, which was later rebranded Sherry FitzGerald Mortgages. More Dublin residential branches followed in Ranelagh and Dalkey.

In the Spring of 2000 we pioneered the concept of and led the set up of Ireland's leading property portal, www.myhome.ie. The website and the brand was launched in 2001.

As the public began to appreciate the quality of the www.myhome.ie website, and its ability to save time in property searching, the business rapidly grew to become Ireland's largest and most successful property website. Some five years after its launch, the business was acquired by the Irish Times as part of the development of their expansionary media strategy.

As DTZ Sherry FitzGerald grew it opened offices in, Cork, Galway and Limerick. In addition, during this period, DTZ Sherry FitzGerald acquired an interest in DTZ McCombe Pierce in Belfast.

Though the business and the brand flourished while on the stock exchange for four years, due to sentiment the share price didn't follow. Hence, four years after the company was floated, the Chief Executive, Mark FitzGerald led an MBO and the company was taken private in 2003.

In 2004, DTZ Sherry FitzGerald acquired the Dublin firm of chartered surveyors, C. S. Tierney O'Neill and subsequently in the same year, strengthened their Cork commercial business by the acquisition of the former Collier Jackson Stops in that key city.

The Sherry FitzGerald franchise business rapidly expanded between 1999 and 2006. Before long, Sherry FitzGerald had branches offering local know-how in every county in the Republic. A successful network of residential Lettings franchise branches was also launched.

Today, a significant part of the Sherry FitzGerald's Group business is based in London. This is as a result of the acquisition of the 150 year old Central and West London estate agency of Marsh and Parsons in 2005. Our London presence was further expanded to a total of 14 branches in 2006 with the acquisition, integration and rebranding by Marsh and Parsons of the Vanstons estate agency. Today Marsh and Parsons employs 200 people in London with offices in Balham, Barnes, Battersea, Bayswater, Brook Green, Chelsea, Clapham, Fulham, Hammersmith, Holland Park, Kensington, Mayfair, North Kensington, Notting Hill, Pimlico and Westminster.

In 2006, we opened a new branch in Dublin's booming city centre. That same year we launched two community initiatives. Firstly, the "Your Home Away From Home" which saw us underwrite the purchase of a house for Temple Street Children´s Hospital to use as parents accommodation. We subsequently arranged two successful 10km Walkathons to raise funds for the project. Secondly, we were instrumental in the establishment of Amawele - a new national charity whose objective is to twin 200 Irish schools by 2010 with schools in the Eastern and West Cape of South Africa.

In 2007, we celebrated our 25th anniversary by opening our 13,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art Group flagship premises in Ballsbridge. Also in 2007, we opened a branch in Greystones in Co. Wicklow.

In 2008 we were chosen by Christies Great Estates to be their exclusive affiliate in Ireland. This partnership gives sellers of prestige homes in Ireland access to international markets. Likewise we can also offer the owners of luxury property abroad access to local expertise when they come to sell, via the global Christies Great Estates network.
