Pop-Up Garden Room

By Sherry FitzGerald .

In the unlikely event that we may actually see a summer this year, now might be a good time to invest in a protective awning for your home. Less intrusive in terms of the building work and disruption involved, the option of adding an awning to an exterior wall can give you that much needed additional space even when the weather isn't clement. Less expensive and out of sight when not needed this flexible option might be just what you need – your own pop-up garden room!

Having committed to making an investment it's time to explore the levels of cost involved, your new awning can be as simplistic or top-of-the-range as suits your pocket. The most important thing to take into account is how easy it is to utilise – manual roll-outs might seem like a good idea in terms of costing but when the elements strike at short notice you might want to consider a faster alternative before your entertainment space gets ruined!

With lots of choice on the market and colour schemes to think about, have a look at your home from the furthest perimeter of your outdoor space, what do you see? How will your awning look when fully displayed, will it complement the existing design? If you have a plant scheme, choose a colour or look that will fit into it so that you create a flow in your garden. Your aim is to achieve soft lines so that nothing jars when viewing your finished area.

The huge advantage of adding an awning is in its retractability, unlike a conservatory or sunroom – each with their own advantages - you get to keep control over your space by not creating a permanent fixture. Your home will look bigger at the push of a button but without the necessity of undertaking a lot of expensive remodelling. Being both flexible and strong you can have the choice of being in control of their angle and direction depending on whatever level of light or shade you need. Opt for a bespoke awning for the ultimate in style statement.

When we think of being outdoors, we tend to think entertainment – wining and dining with family and friends. But you should also consider your pop-up space as an additional room that can be utilised for any purpose. With an overhead shelter there’s nothing to stop you treating it as a home office – what nicer than to work outdoors surrounded by all that nature has to offer – and still be productive? Yeah, right..
