Selling your property in the autumn

Autumn is one of the best times to sell

The autumn is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year to sell your home. With the summer holidays over, children back at school and most of us settling back into routine, the property market can see a lot of movement.

For many buyers Christmas is an important marker in the year. They’ll want to be settled in their new home for Christmas, or to make a new start early in the New Year so September and October are ideal for focusing on finding the perfect property to invest in.

What can you do to attract buyers?

Get good quality photographs.  Autumn colours create a beautiful backdrop to pictures of your home. We will employ a trusted professional photographer to get the best images of your property for print and online brochures. Ask us for advice on the little changes you can make to get your home looking attractive to potential buyers.

Keeping your garden tidy and free from fallen leaves is a good place to start when it comes to viewings. First impressions last, so replace any faded summer flowering plants with autumn colours. Some well tended potted plants near the front of your property can also make it very eye catching. Make sure that they are looking fresh and healthy for any potential viewings. An autumn wreath on the front door or some autumn flowers in a vase on your table can add a bit of cheer on a dull day.

Preparing for viewings

The outside of your property is the first thing that visitors will see so have your gutters cleaned and ensure there are no leaks or drips that will be noticed on a rainy autumn day. Get the heating system serviced and chimney cleaned. Buyers will want a warm home coming into the winter and will often enquire about the boiler. These little things could make or break the deal.

For viewings, light the fire and keep all of the lights on to give your property a cosy look and feel. Little touches such as reed diffusers with autumn scents like cinnamon and spice can add to that first impression and make your property the one buyers are keen to see.
