Sherry FitzGerald celebrate the opening of their 100th office

Ireland’s largest estate agents Sherry FitzGerald announced today (Thursday, 16th September) the opening of their 100th office which is located on the Phibsborough Road at the historic Doyle’s Corner.

Elizabeth Ryan, a very well-regarded estate agent in the local area will manage the branch, working alongside residential director and local resident Martin Doyle.  Both have long experience in the Phibsborough and Drumcondra suburbs.

Steven McKenna, CEO, Sherry FitzGerald Group said “The opening of our 100th office in Ireland marks a significant milestone for Sherry FitzGerald and further enhances our extensive branch network in Dublin city. We are delighted to now have 10 branches servicing North Dublin.”

Speaking at the launch of the branch, Marian Finnegan, Managing Director said, “The opening of our Phibsborough branch is an acknowledgement of our confidence both in the market and the location.  The area hosts an eclectic mix of homes, from beautiful period properties to contemporary houses and apartments.  Phibsborough is a thriving village with a large selection of wonderful amenities, fantastic modern restaurants, and traditional pubs.  This location is proving to be very popular for all types of buyers from first time buyers to those seeking a home for a growing family.”

Housing is very much part of the nation’s daily conversation once again.  Unfortunately, like so many areas of the economy, the housing market has also been damaged by the pandemic.  The demand/supply imbalance for property was evident long before the onset of Covid 19 and has been exacerbated by the prolonged period of lockdown.  As such, the overall stock of houses available for sale remains at record low levels, which is very challenging for all would- be purchasers.”

As of July 2021, there were only 17,100 second-hand properties listed for sale nationwide, comparing this to a more normalised pre-covid trading period of July 2019, reveals a substantial fall in supply of 26%.  In Dublin, the total volume of properties advertised for sale represented just 0.8% of the overall total private housing stock, thus highlighting the scale of the supply shortage in the Capital.

In an effort to tackle the ongoing housing crisis, the Government’s recently unveiled its latest housing policy plan “Housing for All”. The ambitious plan will see the Government allocate a record €4bn annually to deliver some 300,000 homes by end of the decade.

Commenting on the plan, Ms. Finnegan said, “The policies brought forward in the “Housing for All” plan are very meaningful and coupled with the substantial allocation of resources should help bridge the supply gap, assuming targets are met. That said, supply pressures will remain a feature of the market in the short term.”
