Gorgeous, traditional Irish stone cottage located in a tranquil, pastoral setting just three miles from Claremorris town and two miles from the N17 Galway to Sligo road.

This cottage has oodles of character and is very attractive as you approach with its whitewashed walls and red galvanised roof. Traditional in its layout, with three seperate rooms, a living room in the centre of the house with two bedrooms on either end. In this house, the smaller of the bedrooms was used as a sitting room. The open-plan living room in the centre of the house is completed by the "hag" adjacent to the fire. A "Hag" was a little add-on to the house and was used for sleeping. Small but cosy, probably the warmest bed in the house given its proximity to the fireplace. The large open fire has a working "crane" which holds pots that swing in and out of the open fire for cooking. "Heart of the home" is the inscription over the fireplace which is the focal point of the room. There is an attic space accessed from the living room which was used for storage.

There is an electricity supply connected to the house. There is a water supply from a local scheme coming to the house but not connected. There is no toilet or septic tank in place.

Beside the house there is a grove of 450 trees planted in recent years and comprised of birch, mountain ash and alder. There is also a stone shed which could be used as a fuel store. The overall site are is approximately 0.5 acres.

Meelickmore National school is withing walking distance, approximately 800m away. The school is very popular and children travel from local areas to attend.

Claremorris is a town in County Mayo, at the junction of the N17and the N60 national routes. The population of Claremorris in the 2011 Census was 3,979. Claremorris is the fastest growing town in County Mayo. There was a 31% increase in the town's population between 2006 and 2011 and a 23% increase between 2002 and 2006.

Many new shops have been added in the last few years, including The Silverbridge Shopping Centre. With the development of Chapel Lane from a derelict street to a commercial street, this part of the town has been transformed. Four supermarkets compete for customers in the town including retail giants Tesco and Aldi.
