About the Area
Tullyallen (Irish: Tulaigh Álainn, meaning "beautiful hill") is a village and townland 6 km north-west of the town of Drogheda in County Louth. It is located in the historical Boyne Valley, in the Catholic parish of Mellifont; it is also close to Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth burial mounds, Monasterboice monastery, and to the Battle of the Boyne site.
Tullyallen village is a thriving community, with a number of amenities in the centre of the village: - primary school, crèche and montessori pre-school, supermarket, Catholic church, church hall, pub, GAA grounds, credit union, pharmacy, butcher, hair & beauty salon and Chinese/Thai takeaways,fast-food takeaway and is located close to Townley Hall and its parkland including Townley Hall Golf Club. A children's playground, funded by the local community was officially opened in October 2011 by the then president of Ireland, Ms.Mary McAlesse.
The local primary school is called Tullyallen National School. It was founded in 1956 (approximately). It currently has 326 pupils, with two Junior infants,two Senior Infants,one 1st class,one mixed 1st and 2nd, one second class,one mixed 3rd and 4th, one 4th,one 5th and one 6th. The school uniform is a wine jumper, grey trousers/skirt,a wine tie and a white shirt.
