Carrick-On-Shannon
Co. Roscommon
N41 VX84
Description
A charming Presbytery residence nestled on a circa 1.22ha / 2.77 acre gently elevated, undulating site with a most pleasant southerly aspect with views over the former Rockville Estate and environs.
This wonderful mid 19th century house, much loved former home of many priests, and most recently, Henk van Kerkwijk, Dutch writer of plays, poems and children's books, occupies circa 3 acres of gardens, courtyard and prime grazing land located just south of Hillstreet with Carrick-on-Shannon 10km away and 8km from Strokestown. Nearby are the renowned Hillstreet Lakes, a group of small, interlinked loughs offering fishing in abundance, boating, fresh water swimming & kayaking.
The Parochial House boasts an original 19th century enclosed courtyard with a cobbled yard waiting to be revealed! The courtyard features an open leanto, two storey granary building with loft requiring restoration and adjoining stables & loose box.
With well-proportioned, high-ceilinged, well layed-out rooms, all with lovely views, and with many attractive, period features intact, including window shutters, porcelain bell pulls, coving, centre roses, and stained glass, yet with basics like electrics upgraded to code, this distinctive residence awaits the stewardship of a new owner keen to enjoy and enhance its many virtues, and make it their home.
